The CC-BY-NC-SA license (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike) is one of the licenses offered by Creative Commons that allows creators to share their works with certain restrictions. Here's how the copyright system works under this license:

1. Attribution (BY):
- Anyone who uses the work must give appropriate credit to the original creator. This means that when someone shares, copies, or adapts the work, they must clearly acknowledge the creator by providing their name, the title of the work (if applicable), a link to the original work, and a link to the license. The attribution should not imply that the creator endorses the user or their use of the work.

2. NonCommercial (NC):
- The work can only be used for non-commercial purposes. This means that the user cannot use the work to make money or for any commercial gain. For example, the work cannot be sold, used in advertising, or included in a product that is sold without the creator’s permission. However, non-commercial uses, such as in educational materials or personal projects, are allowed.

3. ShareAlike (SA):
- If someone creates a derivative work (such as a remix, adaptation, or translation) based on the original work, they must distribute the new work under the same CC-BY-NC-SA license. This ensures that any adaptations of the work remain available for others to use under the same terms. The "ShareAlike" condition creates a "copyleft" effect, meaning that the freedoms granted by the original license are preserved in derivative works.

4. No Additional Restrictions:
- Users of the work cannot apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits. For example, users cannot place Digital Rights Management (DRM) on a file that would prevent others from sharing or adapting it.

The CC-BY-NC-SA license allows for the free use, sharing, and adaptation of a work, as long as the user:
- Gives proper credit to the creator.
- Uses the work only for non-commercial purposes.
- Distributes any derivative works under the same license.
