Archiving Policy
Bhumidevi: Journal of Fashion Design is dedicated to ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published scholarly content. We recognize the critical importance of creating permanent archives to secure the intellectual history and research output in the field of fashion design for future generations, regardless of any potential technical, organizational, or economic disruption.
To achieve this goal, this journal employs the world's leading, distributed, and perpetual preservation systems: LOCKSS and CLOCKSS.
1. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
Bhumidevi: Journal of Fashion Design utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a decentralized and distributed preservation network.
-
How it Works: The LOCKSS program, developed at the Stanford University Library, is an open-source software that enables libraries to collect, preserve, and provide their communities with access to authorized content. Participating libraries regularly "poll" the journal's website for newly published content and build their own permanent archives (caches) of the journal.
-
Perpetual Access: The LOCKSS system continuously validates the integrity of the content across all library caches. If any data corruption or loss is detected in one cache, the system automatically uses content from other caches or the journal's primary source to restore the correct version.
-
Benefit: This cooperative, peer-to-peer network ensures seamless, perpetual access to the journal's content for participating libraries, safeguarding the entire publication record.
2. CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
In addition to LOCKSS, Bhumidevi: Journal of Fashion Design participates in the CLOCKSS initiative, a collaborative dark archive trusted by the world’s leading academic publishers and research libraries.
-
How it Works: CLOCKSS is a not-for-profit joint venture that operates as a "dark archive," meaning content is secured but generally inaccessible unless a "Trigger Event" occurs. Content is preserved on a global network of secure servers hosted by 12 leading research libraries across the globe.
-
Trigger Event: A Trigger Event occurs when the journal content becomes unavailable from the publisher for any reason (e.g., the journal ceases publication, publisher's failure, catastrophic data loss, etc.).
-
Perpetual Open Access: Upon a Trigger Event, the CLOCKSS Board will vote to activate the content. Once triggered, the journal's content will be made openly and freely available to the public via the CLOCKSS archive under a Creative Commons license, ensuring the information remains part of the scholarly record forever.
By leveraging both the active access and preservation capabilities of LOCKSS and the secure, long-term archival guarantee of CLOCKSS, Bhumidevi: Journal of Fashion Design ensures that its valuable contributions to fashion design research and scholarship are permanently protected and accessible for the global academic community.
