Plagiarism Policy

Bhumidevi: Journal of Fashion Design is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and integrity in academic publishing. We believe that all submitted manuscripts must be original, authentic, and free from any form of plagiarism.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions of another author, and representing them as one's own original work without proper attribution. This includes self-plagiarism (re-using one's own previously published material without proper citation).

Plagiarism Screening and Acceptable Similarity Level

  1. All manuscripts submitted to Bhumidevi: Journal of Fashion Design will undergo a rigorous screening process using reputable plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, etc.) prior to, or during, the peer-review process.

  2. The maximum acceptable similarity index (or plagiarism percentage) for any submitted manuscript is 20% (twenty percent). This threshold includes similarity to the authors' own previously published work (self-plagiarism).

  3. A manuscript showing a similarity index above 20% will be immediately rejected without further peer review. The corresponding author will be notified and advised to make necessary revisions to reduce the similarity level by extensive paraphrasing, proper quotation, and correct citation before re-submission (if re-submission is allowed by the Editor-in-Chief).

  4. Even if the similarity index is below 20%, the Editor and Editorial Board reserve the right to evaluate the specific portions of text flagged by the software. If significant instances of "patchwork" plagiarism, improper citation, or verbatim copying without quotation marks are found, the manuscript may still be rejected or require substantial revision.

Consequences of Plagiarism

Any manuscript found to contain plagiarism, at any stage of the submission or publication process, will face the following actions:

  • Pre-publication: Immediate rejection of the manuscript. Severe cases may result in a formal notice to the author's institution and a ban on future submissions to the journal.

  • Post-publication: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the article will be formally retracted from the journal's website, an official retraction notice will be published, and a public statement regarding the misconduct will be issued.

Author Responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring the originality of their manuscripts and for securing all necessary permissions for any copyrighted material. Authors must properly and accurately cite all sources and explicitly differentiate their own words and ideas from those of others by using quotation marks for direct quotes and providing correct references.
