LOCKSS Manifest

Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (developed by Stanford University Libraries) provides a distributed preservation network.

  • • Decentralized Preservation: Open-source software allowing participating libraries to collect, store, and preserve authoritative journal copies.
  • • Integrity Verification: Automatically checks content integrity across library caches and restores any corrupted or lost data.
  • • Perpetual Access: Guarantees that published content remains permanently accessible even if platform operations cease.

CLOCKSS Archive

CLOCKSS Manifest

Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe serves as a secure, long-term dark archive network.

  • • Secure Dark Archive: Preserves journal content across 12 major research institutions globally.
  • • Trigger Event Protection: Content remains dark until a trigger event occurs (e.g., publisher data loss or cessation).
  • • Open Access Guarantee: If triggered, the full archive is immediately activated and made public under a CC BY 4.0 license.

Institutional Repositories & Self-Archiving

In addition to LOCKSS and CLOCKSS, the journal actively encourages authors to deposit the final published version (Publisher's PDF) of their articles in institutional, departmental, or subject-specific repositories to further preserve and disseminate scholarly record under the CC BY 4.0 license.
