MENYELAMI MAKNA MATERIALITAS DAN KREATIFITAS: REPRESENTASI DAN NARASI DALAM PAMERAN SENI ART SUB 2025 PADA TEMA “MATERIAL WAYS”

Materialitas dalam seni kontemporer tidak lagi sekadar persoalan estetika, melainkan juga bahasa sosial yang merepresentasikan kritik terhadap realitas budaya, politik, dan ekologis. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kesenjangan pemahaman mengenai bagaimana material dalam konteks pameran seni di Indonesia berfungsi sebagai wacana kritis, bukan sekadar media visual. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap cara material dalam pameran Art Subs 2025 bertema Material Ways membentuk narasi sosial serta menelusuri relasi antara seniman, kurator, dan penonton melalui kerangka wacana. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan analisis wacana kritis model Norman Fairclough yang melibatkan tiga dimensi: teks, praktik wacana, dan praktik sosiokultural. Data diperoleh dari katalog pameran, pidato kurator, serta observasi langsung, kemudian interpertasi secara tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada level teks, material seperti tanah liat, limbah industri, dan bahan daur ulang berfungsi sebagai simbol transformasi sosial dan spiritual; pada level praktik wacana, seniman merekontekstualisasi material untuk mempertanyakan relasi antara seni dan konsumserisme; sedangkan pada level sosiokultural, karya mencerminkan ketegangan antara tradisi lokal dan modernitas global. Kesimpulannya, pameran ini menegaskan bahwa materialitas dalam seni kontemporer Indonesia merupakan medium kritik yang menghubungkan estetika, ideologi, dan kesadaran ekologis.
