AI Policy

Hastagina: Jurnal Kriya dan Industri Kreatif adopts the principles set forth by COPE regarding the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technology in the research and publication process. This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors.

1. AI Use by Authors (in Manuscript Preparation)

The use of AI tools (such as Large Language Models or LLMs) to assist in the writing process is permitted, but its application must be transparent, limited, and the authors retain full accountability for all content.

  • Non-Authorship: AI tools, including generative LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.), cannot be credited as an author or co-author. Authorship requires accountability and the ability to take responsibility for the integrity of the work, which AI tools cannot do.

  • Accountability: Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy, validity, originality, and copyright of all material in their manuscript, including any text, images, figures, or data generated or modified by an AI tool.

  • Disclosure of Use: Authors must disclose the use of any AI-assisted technology in the "Materials and Methods" section or a specific "Acknowledgments" section. This disclosure should specify:

    • The name of the AI tool(s) used (e.g., ChatGPT 4.0, Gemini Advanced).

    • The purpose for which the tool was used (e.g., editing grammar, translating, generating initial literature review structure).

    • The specific portion of the manuscript edited or generated by the tool.

  • Plagiarism and Citation: Authors must ensure that any material generated by an AI tool is checked for plagiarism and is not presented as original thought or data. AI tools often generate content based on existing texts; authors are responsible for verifying sources and correctly citing the underlying material.

  • Images and Visuals (for Kriya/Craft): AI-generated images or design representations must be explicitly disclosed in the figure captions. Authors must ensure that the use of AI for generating or manipulating visual content does not infringe on existing copyrights or intellectual property rights related to traditional craft designs.

2. AI Use by Reviewers and Editors

AI tools may be used by reviewers and editors to increase efficiency, but strict ethical limits apply to ensure confidentiality and fairness.

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers and editors must not upload or paste any part of a confidential manuscript (including the abstract, data, or findings) into an AI tool, as this constitutes a breach of confidentiality.

  • Assessment: AI tools should not be used to generate review reports or editorial decisions. Human judgment, critical thinking, and expertise remain essential for the peer review and editorial process.

3. Misconduct Related to AI

Any breach of this policy will be treated as publishing misconduct, including:

  • Presenting AI-generated text or images without disclosure.

  • Crediting an AI tool as an author.

  • Using an AI tool that results in data fabrication or plagiarism.

The journal will follow the relevant COPE Flowcharts to investigate and address such allegations.
