Publication Ethics

Hastagina: Jurnal Kriya dan Industri Kreatif is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractice. We adhere strictly to the guidelines and core practices provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publishing process: authors, editors, and peer reviewers.

1. Duties of Authors

Authors submitting to Hastagina: Jurnal Kriya dan Industri Kreatif must comply with the following ethical standards:

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. If the work and/or words of others have been used, they must be appropriately cited or quoted. The journal employs a strict plagiarism check (with a maximum tolerance of 20%).

  • Data Accuracy: Data and design creations should be accurately presented. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements, data fabrication, or data falsification constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

  • Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. Submitting articles that describe essentially the same research (duplicate publication or "salami slicing") is unethical.

  • Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported work (e.g., in Kriya, this includes the concept, creative process, and theoretical analysis). All authors must have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission.

  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. This includes citing publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

  • Conflict of Interest: All financial or other substantive conflicts of interest (personal, professional, or academic) that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript must be disclosed at the earliest stage.

2. Duties of Editors

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board of Hastagina: Jurnal Kriya dan Industri Kreatif are responsible for ensuring the quality of the material they publish.

  • Fair Play: Editors evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to the author's race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.

  • Confidentiality: Editors and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher.

  • Decision Responsibility: The editor is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted should be published. They must base their decision on the scholarly merit, relevance to the journal's scope (Craft and Creative Industries), and the reviewers' recommendations.

  • Handling Misconduct: The editor must follow the COPE Flowcharts to investigate any allegations of research or publication misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, data fabrication) in a fair, consistent, and prompt manner.

3. Duties of Reviewers (Peer Reviewers)

Peer Review is crucial for maintaining the quality and integrity of the scholarly record.

  • Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and may also assist the author in improving the paper.

  • Promptness and Objectivity: Reviewers should submit their reviews promptly and conduct them objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.

  • Confidentiality: Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not use information obtained through peer review for personal advantage.

  • Disclosure of Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should decline to review a manuscript if they have any potential conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the paper.

4. Dealing with Unethical Behavior

Hastagina: Jurnal Kriya dan Industri Kreatif takes every reported allegation of publication misconduct seriously.

  • Investigation: The Editorial Board will investigate any claim of misconduct following the COPE guidelines.

  • Sanctions: If the allegation is substantiated, the journal will take appropriate action, which may include:

    • Immediate rejection of the manuscript.

    • Publication of a formal notice or retraction of the published article.

    • A formal ban on the author(s) from submitting future work to the journal.

    • Notifying the author's institution or funding body.
